Texas lawmaker: Asians should change their names to make them ‘easier for Americans to deal with.’
On Tuesday, State Rep. Betty Brown (R) caused a firestorm during House testimony on voter identification legislation when she said that Asian-Americans should change their names because they’re too hard to pronounce:
“Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese — I understand it’s a rather difficult language — do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?” Brown said.
Brown later told [Organization of Chinese Americans representative Ramey] Ko: “Can’t you see that this is something that would make it a lot easier for you and the people who are poll workers if you could adopt a name just for identification purposes that’s easier for Americans to deal with?”
Yesterday, Brown continued to resist calls to apologize. Her spokesman said that Democrats “want this to just be about race.”
I have Sting and UTFO to thank....
90 year old friend/client of 5 years in critical care and they put in a feeding tube and now a ventilator and is retrained. Eeks. Not good. Hopefully it will end soon, however it turns out.
Remember to: 1.) Do your papers and make your end of life preferences clear; 2.) Live it up!
Therefore, I declare I shall now make a fire, watch Absolutely Fabulous episodes and cuddle with the kitties... :)
So I was making an artichoke and mushroom lasagna last night which required a bechemal sauce. Despite following the directions, I burnt the crap out of the milk and butter...figured my stove runs on the hot side. I scraped that sauce and tried again, lowering the temp and stirring frequently (as opposed to "occasionally" like the recipe said), and STILL burnt the bottom of pot #2! Argh! Thank goodness I didn't have to scrap that batch though as it didn't taste like burnt milk much at all....
But then came the cleaning and the scrubbing and the cleaning and scrubbing...
This was one of the most trying cooking experience, besides trying to make a meringue.
TIP: If you have burnt milk on pan, boil some water and lemon juice for 10 minutes, then take a wooden spoon and scrape. Comes off so much easier! Love the internet to look stuff like that up! yay!
P.S. And the lasagna turned out awesome!
Uh, well, it isn't a typical Saturday evening when a tornado blows through Plymouth and just misses my condo. It was a dark and stormy night..and stupid me, Tuna and the General were standing out on the back deck intrigued by the storm, Tuna hears a train (apparently a tornado now) and we saw a transformer lite up the sky. Luckily, we only lost power for a few seconds. Then the tornado sirens came on AFTER the tornado came through (of course).
Went out and assess the damage last night and this morning...hardly a stick down in my parking lot but just a 100 feet or so away from place across the railroad there was a clear path of tree tops torn off or totally fallen. We follow a clear path from Starkweather in Plmouth through the neighborhood through Hines Drive. Just up Schoolcraft some rooftops were blown clear off some apartment buildings and a couple cars flipped over. No major injuries. Weird! A small skinny tornado, but the closest I want to come to one. Eeks!
Oh dear. It sez I haven't posted in 81 weeks. But I have not much to say, except: I am one lucky, happy, content, peaceful, spoiled Woman. Life is Beautiful. And there you have it. Mmmm Hmmmm. Until my next post in another 81 weeks....
Holy cow. I haven't been sleeping enough or well lately, and boy does it fuck with your head! I never think clearly when I do. Plans I made last nite were all f-ed trying to go to the Dirty Show (where the art has been getting progressively better and better over the years) because of random mix ups and cuz I for some reason couldn't think straight to figure out logistics. It is sooooo hard to come back to Michigan from Miami, where the weather was a beautiful 80 degrees! Totally discomboobulated. But the totally rockin thing was that I came home to a totally clean car after I let a friend borrow my car while I was gone. Hooray for clean cars!!!! Hooray for considerate friends!!!! Now, somehow I gotta get back into the swing of things again...ugh.
How wonderful it is to be in a place where there is a mere hint of melancholy to make my life so wonderful and beautiful at this time. I love where my head is at right now. I am feeling well grounded. I am excited for the future, and want to have as much fun as possible, which I dare say, I think I'm getting good at!
It is the realization that ultimately I have the control over how I feel in response to adverse situations. I will never have control over events, but I will always have control over what I learn from a particular situation and how I can draw humor out of anything. No one will ever be able to take it away from me. I hope.
I am feeling pretty content and at peace. I am totally surrounded with people that I so love and adore. It's a damn good place to be - I highly recommend it. hooray!!!!
Uh...I thought of something in the car that I was going to post about, but now....I forgot. So, I am now just posting about how I forgot what I was going to post. LOL I'm a dork...at least I entertain myself!!!
I have been grazing in my kitchen for the last hour and a half...whew! Partying all night is HARD WORK!!! Moooooooooooo....
EDIT: Ahahahahahahahaha rotf... the image of last nite's reincarnation of the windmills just popped in my head - three growm men spinning their penises...I can't believe I found such a great group of people....heeheheeheehee...
